About the Author

Zora Neale Hurston, the author of Their Eyes Were Watching God, was deemed "one of the greatest writers of our time" by Toni Morrison. As later African-American literature became increasingly militant, Hurston was accused of turning black experience into a minstrel show. The Best Audio Tape Ever!

This audio tape recorded by Ruby Dee of Zora Neale Hurston's Mules and Men absolutely makes the case for audio-books because of Dee's extraordinary performance. I seriously doubt that Hurston could do better herself. It is so great that this is the third time I am buying it. The first two copies are owned by my Mom (artist Faith Ringgold) who is bi-coastal and keeps a copy loaded in the tape player ready to play, day or night, on each coast, and the third is for me because now from listening to my Mom's tapes I am as addicted to it as she is. This is becoming true of a lot of her friends. Whether you are doing something else or just listening, it fits in perfectly, and it is full of wisdom and laughs. It is absolutely the best, and I would buy anything else that Ruby Dee ever had anything to do with because she is the glue that makes it work.

Keep moving on

This book is fairly useless and there is far better material available out there. Even a basic youtube search will teach you more about half baked Jyotish than this book could, though I wouldn't recommend that either necessarily.

Finally able to understand vedic astrology

I thought this book was exceptionally clear and for the first time I think I really might be able to start learning the subject. It is clearly for the beginner but also enables anyone I think to learn something new. The author obviously spent many years studying the subject and has written a wonderful introduction outlining her intense studies in India. But this book is clearly written for people at any level and is written in a most enjoyable and engaging style and it is also very knowledgeable and very clear. I would recommend it highly. There are many good Vedic astrology books out there meant for the beginning student. and this is one of the best. I have studied myself for many years with some good Indian teachers.

I have read a number of Jyotish books including books written by Indian authors. I would not recommend you to buy this book.
Its not good at all. Mostly just a mechanical reproduction of some principles without explaining them properly.
The main thing that bothered me was that the author has not shown the use of navamsha at all. Most astrologers in India
dont even start analysing unless they see the navamsha also.
[...] If you are a beginner read, "Light On Life by Hart Defaouw" . Its the best for beginners!
After reading "Light on Life" , read "Elements of Vedic astrology 1 & 2 by Dr.Charak". The book by Dr.Charak is one of the most comprehensive book in English (other than classical texts).
Point is that there are numerous great Pandits and scholars
who have written books on astrology and these books are a thousand times better than this one.

The biography of Rebbitzen Kanievsky is a moving account of an extraordinary woman; the daughter, wife and mother of an illustrious rabbinical family who through her selflessness and pragmatic greatness succeeded in touching the lives of thousands of men, women and children. Over the last 30 years of her life, this great woman welcomed over 75,000 visitors into her humble, 2 bedroom apartment, each one seeking her wise counsel and heartfelt encouragement for problems they were encountering in their lives. In the book, Rebbetzin Kanievsky: A Legendary Mother to All, the author invites the reader to get inspired by examining the powerful life of a woman who dedicated herself to advising and comforting everyone who walked into her home, from the wealthy philanthropist to the inconsolable widow.

Weinberger takes the reader on an inspiring journey by telling poignant stories heard from those who came from all walks of life to speak with Rebbitzen Kanievsky. These "strangers" were quickly made to feel like family, as they entered the home of Mrs. Kanievsky, reveling in her warmth and willingness to give of her time to listen to their problems. The author begins with giving the family history of Rebbetzin Kanievsky, and proceeds with just the right amount of life stories to illustrate her positive attributes and a sprinkle of humor to keep things light. This helps the reader relate to this great personality on a personal level. The book is written in easy, clear and intelligible terminology for a pleasant read.
In conclusion, the author delves into the purposeful life of Rebbitzen Kanievsky by recounting true stories told by those who came to her for help, which are meant to inspire the reader to better themselves in areas such as patience, kindness and selflessness. For both men and women, today or in 20 years, this biography is sure to be relevant and entertaining.

Awe inspiring

This is such a moving tribute to an incredible woman. Isn't that what we are all striving to be? She was devoted to her family and it showed in every action. I enjoyed the way the author wss able to portray her in a way that made it easy to visualize the Rebbetzin. I like that there are photographs of her and her family. I particularly like the fact that included is her recipe for challah and some of the prayers and letters from her. I was so pleased to read this book and be awe inspired by this great Rebbetzin.

This is the best book that Artscroll ever published. This is a classic that will overtake "All For The Boss" by Feldheim. The stories are inspiring and captivating. I read the book more than 15 times and plan on reading it again.There were several people in my community that named their daughters Batsheva Esther after reading this articulate book!!!!
